Ismael is the Senior Research Programme Coordinator for Education Research in Conflict and Protracted Crisis, an Education in Emergencies research consortium seeking to identify effective approaches for improving access, quality, and continuity of education to improve learning outcomes for children living in crisis contexts, funded by the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and led by the International Rescue Committee. His research focuses on communal mobility, migration, and education on the move in crisis settings, grounded in theories of indigenous knowledge systems and capabilities approaches.
Ismael is anticipating graduation in Spring of 2024.
